Current news

Well, I've been stalling on the making of the screenplays, which isn't surprising. I have been pursuing making the first dramatic short, though, which is good. Not my screenplay, which isn't so good, but it's my shoot, my direction, and my edit, which is (good).

I am working on the documentaries, however, and those have been interesting. Plus, of course, the weddings videos, which are getting some good feedback from the clients as well as others. Again, good news, as it means I'm getting better at what I do. Even as I look back to my earlier attempts I can see how much the composition, lighting, sound, editing and such have improved. All these aspects will be passed on to my more adventurous projects, of course. I am, as it were, learning my craft...

I watched Network the other day, and was bowled over by how brilliant the film was. I'd last seen it probably thirty years ago, and I'd forgotten just how brilliant it was. Fabulous writing. Every character had a memorable, passionate, important monologue and scene, and not one moment of the film was just dressed up crap like so many films nowadays. I reflected, again, how films today are all wrapping but no content. They have so little to say. And yet Network is an important film today as it was in 1976 or whenever it was made.

If I can write dialogue anything approaching that good, then I'll consider myself a huge success.
